Rotorua Golf Club Saturday ladies Newsletter – 23 March 2016

Rotorua Golf club

Kia ora wahine ma!

It has been a busy beginning to the golfing season with our weekly Saturday competitions well underway and averaging between 15 and 20 players each week.

The excellent course conditions and warm weather over the past few weeks have no doubt had a positive effect on the scores of our golfers with some very good results being returned by Carolyn Bourke (LGU 1- 69 nett), Rochelle McKay (LGU 2- 72nett) and Ngaire Mitchell (LGU 3- 69 and Club Teams Nett – 71 nett). Well done girls!

Congratulations to Ngaire who is ‘running hot’ at the moment. She gained fourth place in the team that will compete at Kawerau in the Ladies Club Teams’ Final on Monday 2 May. Good luck Ngaire and keep playing well!

On a much sadder note our thoughts and prayers are very much with ‘a very dear, and special golfing friend to us all’, Gay Bartle, who suffered a sudden aneurism last Wednesday. Marilyn and Debbie M visited her on Monday at Waikato Hospital and although she is making steady progress she is certainly not out of danger and still has a long way to go. It’s hard to believe that she was out playing golf with us on the two Saturdays  before this happened! We are all hoping she makes a successful recovery and is back with us in the not too distant future!  “Kia kaha, Gay!”

There are a few events coming up which we would like to draw your attention to:

This Saturday’s Competition (19th March) is the Drysdale Winter Cup, BOP Stableford 1 and Saturday Ladies Plate 1. (The online draw remains for this event)

Easter Saturday is a free day but the following Saturday 2nd April it is ‘packed jam’ with the LGU 4, Victory 4, Putting 4 and the Ladies Qualifying 4BBB Top Cat.

Please note that the selection of partners for the TOP Cat 4BBB Competition this year is different from the past few years. In keeping with the LGU Competition, partners for the 4BBB Top Cat will be drawn from the qualifying net round. This means that the best nett1 and second best nett2 will be partnered up, third and fourth nett (partners), fifth and sixth nett (partners) and so on….

It has worked well for the Tuesday Ladies and their draw for the match play is already up. The final of this competition is played between the Saturday and Tuesday winners so make sure you are ‘a starter’ as this is one of our more popular events! Match play rounds can be played on free Saturdays or a Sunday. The first round will be played on Saturday 23 April. Other free days are mostly in July.

All competitions are optional so it is entirely your responsibility to activate either the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ buttons when printing out your card, so do ‘pause before you press’!

Nancy MacCormick Foursomes: 36 holes to be played on Saturday 9th April.            To allow Don to allocate an earlier Ladies’ tee time for this day please choose your own partners and write your names on the Notice Board sheet before Friday 1st April. Carts may be used for this competition so we encourage you all to participate.

Saturday Duty Roster:  A roster has been put on the notice board so make sure you look and check so that changes can be made if the date does not suit you.

Van Dyks Tournament – Thursday 26th May: Make up a team of four to play in this competition. As Veronica and I are running this tournament please ‘get the word out’ to any of your golfing friends around the region. A pile of ‘FLYERS’ in the Ladies Locker Room has been left for this purpose so please use these for promotion.

Weekend Ladies Open Tournament: At the Ladies Committee Meeting it was decided to hold this tournament (we believe a first for this club in a very long time) on Sunday 18th September. If you have any ideas or suggestions or would like to offer your assistance in any ‘small or big way’ please let us know. Although it is a long way off we would like to give it our ‘best shot’ (pardon the pun) by planning really early!

Enjoy your golf while the conditions and weather are favourable!
